License (GPL)

License

Last updated: June 2026

NexExtend products use a dual-licensing model. This page explains what that means for you as a customer, developer or integrator.

In plain English: The code is open source (GPL). The commercial service — licence key, updates and support — is covered by a separate Restricted Site Agreement (RSA) and requires a paid licence per site.

---

1. GNU General Public Licence (GPL v2+)

All NexExtend components and plugins, including NexDate, are distributed under the GNU General Public Licence version 2 or later. This is the same licence used by Joomla! itself.

Under the GPL you are free to:

  • Use the software for any purpose.
  • Study and modify the source code.
  • Redistribute copies of the software.
  • Distribute modified versions — provided they are also licensed under the GPL.

The full text of the GNU General Public Licence v2 is available at:
gnu.org/licenses/old-licenses/gpl-2.0.html

2. Restricted Site Agreement (RSA)

In addition to the GPL, NexExtend commercial products are subject to a Restricted Site Agreement. The RSA governs access to the following commercial services bundled with a paid licence:

  • Licence key issuance and validation.
  • Access to the download area and future updates.
  • Priority support via the NexExtend forum.
Licence type Single-site (per domain)
Transferable No — a new licence is required for each domain
Number of installations One production site per licence
Development / staging Permitted on localhost or private staging environments
Resale Not permitted without written agreement

3. Third-Party Components

NexExtend products may include third-party libraries and components. Where included, these are compatible with the GPL and are credited in the respective product documentation. Notable examples:

  • Joomla! Framework — GPL v2+
  • jQuery — MIT Licence
  • Font Awesome — Icons: CC BY 4.0, Fonts: SIL OFL 1.1, Code: MIT

4. Branding and Trademarks

The GPL grants you rights to the software code. It does not grant rights to the NexExtend or NexDate names, logos or trademarks, which remain the property of Matig s.r.o. You may not use our trademarks in a way that implies endorsement or official affiliation without prior written consent.
