Every member gets a profile with an avatar, a cover photo and the fields you define. Profile types decide which fields, apps and permissions a member has, and a drag-and-drop workflow builder lays out the registration and profile forms – with steps and conditional fields. Members add friends, follow each other, send private messages and control the privacy of every field and every post.
The activity stream is where the community comes alive. The story form posts status updates, photos, videos, audio, links, polls, files, events and locations, with moods, mentions, hashtags and coloured backgrounds. Friends react, comment and share; notifications arrive on the site and by e-mail.
Groups and pages bring people together around clubs, brands and causes, each with its own discussions, news, files, tasks, photos, videos, polls and events. Events have RSVPs, guest lists, reminders, maps and a calendar, and the marketplace lets members sell items to each other.
Points, badges and a leaderboard reward the most active members. Administrators get a dashboard with statistics, moderation queues, reports, access rules per profile type, maintenance tools and an e-mail queue for large sites.
This release is new from the ground up on the outside: every stylesheet, script, image and e-mail template was written by NexExtend. The pages are lighter, responsive on phones, and there is no dependency on external CDNs or vendor services.

### Added
### Fixed
Extension points for add-ons such as NexSocial Memberships (ES::addons(), events start with onNexSocial):
onNexSocialContentAccess – an add-on can hide a photo, album, video, audio or post from a viewer and show its own message instead. Checked on the item pages, in the stream item view and for photo and audio downloads.
onNexSocialMediaSource – an add-on can serve photo, video and audio files (and video thumbnails) from its own address, for example after an access check.
onNexSocialCoverApps – an add-on can add its own tab to the cover menu of profiles and pages, optionally pinned at the front.
onNexSocialAddonView – the content of such a tab (addon=<name> on profiles and pages).
onNexSocialStoryActions / onNexSocialStoryAfterSave – an add-on can add an option to the post form and the post edit form and save it with the post.
Audio downloads now respect the audio's privacy.
Video thumbnails with a broken parameter reference no longer raise a warning.
4.1.4
### Changed
### Fixed
Login page for guests: the photo chosen in the settings is shown only in the welcome panel, darkened so its text stays readable; the login form always sits on a plain background. Without a custom photo the panel uses the theme colours. The old default photo, loaded from an external server, is no longer used.
The "Login" button is a filled primary button.
About tab of profiles, pages, groups and events: each step is a card with the label and the value side by side (one under the other on phones), the owner's privacy button at the end of the row, and options such as interests shown as chips. Labels no longer end with a colon (and no more double colons).
Birthday: the birth year privacy setting is a small line under the date instead of a heading with a paragraph.
Labels of login and registration fields no longer cover values filled in by the browser (saved logins).
4.1.3
### Fixed
Toolbar popups (notifications, conversations, friend requests) opened to the right, outside the window, on templates where Popper cannot measure the window correctly (pages without a doctype, i.e. in quirks mode, that are wider than the window). After placing a popup, NexSocial now measures where it really is on the screen and moves it back inside the window.
4.1.2
### Fixed
Sidebar widgets (group, page and event members, followers, guests): avatars are shown side by side in rows instead of one under another.
Toolbar popups (notifications, conversations, friend requests) always stay inside the window, also on templates whose page is wider than the window, and never get wider than the screen.
4.1.1
### Fixed
Toolbar: notifications, conversations and friend requests open again on templates such as Cassiopeia that hide every element with role="tooltip" (tooltips were hidden for the same reason).
Avatar field of registration, profile, group, page and event forms: the image is cropped in a proper cropping frame instead of being shown three times, and the current avatar is shown when editing. The cover field has a preview again.
Action menus (…) on group, page, event, video, audio and listing cards are no longer cut off by the card.
Photo albums: files larger than the upload limit, or larger than the server accepts (PHP upload_max_filesize / post_max_size), are refused with a message naming the file and the limit instead of being skipped silently.
Empty listings no longer show untranslated texts such as COM_ES_GROUPS_USER_EMPTY_ALL.
Avatar crop dialog shows the whole cropping area.
4.1.0
This release replaces all scripts, stylesheets, images and fonts inherited from the original product with
NexExtend's own work. Only the GPL-licensed PHP code is still derived from EasySocial; bundled third-party
libraries are listed in THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.md.

### Upgrade notes
Own toolbar (navigation, search, friend requests, conversations, notifications, account menu) replaces the separate StackIdeas Toolbar package.
Own JavaScript runtime and story form (no StackIdeas Foundry scripts).
Custom fields: own validation runtime for every field type (registration, profile edit, quick sign-up, clusters, marketplace).
Dates use a lightweight calendar; profile/event dates can be shown in another timezone.
Skype field uses plain skype: links (no external script).
Registration: accessible profile type chooser replaces the select2 drop-down.
Videos play in the browser's own player (logo and watermark kept); audio has a new waveform player.
Calendar app: new month view (no third-party calendar library); reviews use a new accessible star rating.
Share button for other websites rewritten (sharer.js embed loader, share popup); the embed code is now a single script tag.
Confirmation dialogs (feature, delete, invite, block, filters) work without inline scripts; invite dialogs say when no friends are found.
Stream ads count an impression only when the ad is actually seen.
Logout links in the login, menu and dropdown menu modules no longer use inline JavaScript.
Mod_easysocial_friends: no warning when the filter option has never been saved.
Removed the mobile menu stylesheet and old vendor styles (chosen, imgareaselect, uniform, video.js fonts, weather icons).
Single site theme (Wireframe, own stylesheet); the six other colour themes were removed and sites using one switch to Wireframe automatically.
New default avatars, covers, badges, app icons, emoticons, logos and placeholders (drawn by tools/ns/genimages.py); unused images removed.
Button colour settings now only override the stylesheet when changed; preset post backgrounds use the new stylesheet.
Google sign-in button uses the Font Awesome Google icon.
Download-your-information pages have a new stylesheet.
Own Amazon S3 client (Signature Version 4) and Google sign-in client; remote requests go through Joomla's HTTP package (proxy and certificates of the global configuration). The AWS SDK, Google API client, Guzzle and their dependencies are no longer bundled.
The application directory of the original vendor (online app store) is no longer offered; apps are installed from package files.
New e-mail design (layout, typography, buttons) for all notification e-mails.
Animated GIF uploads are resized locally with Imagick (no remote resizing service); the setting warns when Imagick is missing.
Sign in with Apple: the client secret (JWT) is generated locally with OpenSSL.
The remote image optimizer and API key validation of the original vendor were removed.
Documentation links point to https://nexextend.com/docs/nexsocial/; the licence key is entered in Settings > General.
New setup wizard (requirements, installation, maintenance) without external fonts, animations or CDN scripts.
Own Facebook Graph client (sign-in, permissions, auto posting); the Facebook PHP SDK is no longer bundled.
Text avatars use the DejaVu Sans font instead of Open Sans.
Own script runtime for every page (lists, toolbar, dialogs, item pickers, menu item settings); no StackIdeas scripts or jQuery plugins left.
Workflow builder (steps and custom fields) rewritten: drag & drop, field settings, choices, conditions, move and delete.
Dashboard charts and members map drawn without Flot / Google Maps (OpenStreetMap); colour fields use the browser's colour picker; new icon chooser.
Version check and news come from nexextend.com through the server (cached for 6 hours).
Default avatars of profile types upload as soon as they are chosen.
Opening the workflows view without a layout leads to the workflow list instead of a PHP error.
Story form: the attachment panels (photos, videos, audio, files, links, events, announcements) were hidden; photo and file uploads have a drop zone and thumbnails again.
Event cards show a proper date badge, the featured star only on featured items and no stray separator before the RSVP button.
Dialog buttons pass a jQuery element to their handlers again; sending a message from a profile, deleting a stream item and sharing a post work.
New installations place the default dashboard modules (online users, recent users, recent albums, leaderboard) in the dashboard sidebar, where they are shown.
Administrator lists: the toolbar buttons that need a selection (Publish, Approve, Delete, ...) are enabled again when rows are ticked.
Multi-step forms (registration, new group, page or event) show a styled step bar.
Non-SEF links without a menu item (and Joomla's redirect to SEF URLs) now use the NexSocial menu item; cached SEF URLs written without a menu item are ignored, which sent some profile links to the dashboard.
Profile header badges are shown as small icons.
No PHP deprecation notices from the device detection when NexSocial runs from the command line.
Tagging a photo with a text label failed on MySQL/MariaDB strict mode ("Field 'uid' doesn't have a default value").
Conversation attachments failed when allowed file types are stored as a list.
The embedded video player (video embed code) used the removed video.js library.
Sites that used one of the removed colour themes (Breeze, Dark, Elegant, Frosty, Horizon, Vortex) switch to Wireframe automatically.
Template overrides of e-mails or site layouts made for 4.0.x should be compared with the new files, because the markup changed.
The StackIdeas Toolbar package is no longer needed and can be uninstalled.

Folder::exists() calls were replaced by is_file() / is_dir().
extensions with Installer::getInstance() overwrote each other's database records (only one

failure is logged and recorded in the mail queue instead.
Yes. NexSocial 4.1.0 is built and tested on Joomla 6 and Joomla 5. The backward compatibility plugin is not needed.
Can I upgrade from EasySocial?
Yes. NexSocial installs over an existing EasySocial 4 installation and keeps your members, profiles, friends, groups, pages, events, media, conversations, points and settings. Files of the old version are removed automatically. Back up before upgrading.
Do my template overrides still work?
Overrides of PHP layouts keep working where the markup did not change. Overrides of e-mails and of pages whose markup was redesigned should be compared with the new files.
Can I move from JomSocial or Community Builder?
Yes. Built-in migrators import JomSocial users, groups, events and videos, Community Builder profiles and Kunena data.
Is my licence lifetime?
Yes. Every licence is perpetual. Your plan includes a period of updates and support, and you can renew it at any time to extend that period.
Do I need a licence key to use it?
No. The component works without a key. The key in Settings → General → NexExtend Licence enables updates from the NexExtend server.
Is the code open?
The PHP code is licensed under the GNU GPL v2. You get the full, unencrypted source.
Does it send data to third-party services?
Only the integrations you switch on, such as social sign-in, Google Maps, reCAPTCHA, Akismet, CleanTalk, GIPHY or Amazon S3. Maps use OpenStreetMap by default.
Can I translate it?
Yes. NexSocial uses standard Joomla language files, so you can translate it or change any text with Joomla language overrides. Right-to-left languages are supported.
