Coming from EasyDiscuss? NexDiscuss is the Joomla 6 continuation of EasyDiscuss 5 (GPL). It installs over your existing EasyDiscuss site and keeps all discussions, users and settings.

NexDiscuss is a full Q&A and discussion component for Joomla 5 and 6, and the Joomla 6 continuation of EasyDiscuss 5 (GPL). Use it as a support forum, a knowledge base built by your users, or a place where your community talks.

    • Fixed: on sites where a plugin inserts its HTML before </body> (for example the ConverseKit chat), opening a discussion showed part of the reply form's script as text on the page. The inline reply script no longer contains closing tag text.

    • First NexDiscuss release by NexExtend, based on EasyDiscuss 5.0.15 (GPL v2). It installs over an existing EasyDiscuss 5 site and keeps all discussions, users, settings and attachments.
    • Runs on Joomla 6 without the backward compatibility plugin, and on Joomla 5.
    • New front end: all stylesheets, scripts and images rewritten, with a responsive layout, dark mode, RTL and print styles.
    • New NexDiscuss toolbar with navigation, search, notifications, conversations and the user menu. The separate StackIdeas Toolbar and Foundry packages are no longer needed.
    • New image viewer for attachments, with gallery, keyboard, swipe and download.
    • New responsive e-mail templates. Review any custom e-mail template overrides made for the old layout.
    • New guided installer. Its styles and scripts are embedded, so it works behind proxies and on http/https mismatches.
    • Image optimizer now runs on your own server (PHP GD) with a quality setting. No external service or API key is needed.
    • New built-in Amazon S3 client (Signature V4) replaces the AWS SDK. Buckets with a sub folder are supported.
    • New built-in Facebook Graph API client (v19.0) replaces the Facebook SDK for autoposting.
    • Languages and extra packages now come from the NexExtend update server. When nothing is available, the page explains how to install translations manually.
    • New "NexExtend Licence" panel in Settings → General for the update key. Upgrades keep the key already entered.
    • Stylesheet and script URLs carry a file hash, so browsers and CDN caches load new files right after an update.
    • The admin page title shows the installed version.
    • Fixed: discussion owners could not accept an answer, and the "vote on own post" and protected-post checks did not work.
    • Fixed: settings no longer save the form token, view and boxchecked into the configuration. Old entries are cleaned up on upgrade.
    • Fixed: the toolbar avatar with text (initials) avatars, colours of text avatars, and the filter bar on phones.
    • Fixed: the subscription dialog buttons, rule selects in the badge and point forms, a missing "reject reason" string, and the unsubscribe links in e-mails.
    • Fixed: the Languages page toolbar, the Migrators default page, the Replies view redirect, and copying toolbar module settings in setup.
    • Removed: libraries with GPL-incompatible licences (Fancybox, Selectize, mmenu, AWS SDK, Facebook SDK) and leftover files from older versions. The upgrade deletes them.
    • Licensing: added LICENSE.txt (GNU GPL v2) and THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.md. The full technical list of changes is in CHANGELOG-J6.md.

Does it work on Joomla 6?
Yes. NexDiscuss 5.0.16 is built and tested on Joomla 6 and Joomla 5.
Can I upgrade from EasyDiscuss?
Yes. NexDiscuss installs over an existing EasyDiscuss 5 installation and keeps your discussions, users, settings and attachments. Leftover files from the old version are removed automatically. Back up before upgrading.
Can I import my Kunena / vBulletin forum?
Yes. The built-in migrators import categories, topics, replies and authors from Kunena, vBulletin, JomSocial discussions and the Discussions component.
Is my licence lifetime?
Yes. Every licence is perpetual. Your plan includes a period of updates and support, and you can renew it at any time to extend that period.
Do I need a licence key to use it?
No. The component works without a key. The key in Settings → General → NexExtend Licence enables one-click updates, languages and packages from the NexExtend server.
Is the code open?
The PHP code is licensed under the GNU GPL v2. You get the full, unencrypted source.
Does it send data to third-party services?
Only the integrations you switch on, such as reCAPTCHA, Akismet, social autoposting or S3. The image optimizer runs locally on your server.
Does it support my language?
The interface uses standard Joomla language files, so you can translate it with Joomla's language override tools. Right-to-left languages are supported.
